 ABOUT THE CAPS

— Heading into Tuesday’s game in St. Paul, Minn., veteran G Braden Holtby had posted pedestrian numbers to open the season. He had a .900 save percentage and a 3.24 goals-against average in 13 appearances.

— RW Tom Wilson had his 20-game suspension reduced to 14 games by a neutral arbitrator Tuesday. Wilson had already served 16 games and the reduction saves him approximately $US379,000 in lost salary. He was expected to rejoin Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov on the club’s top line Tuesday night against the Wild. Kuznetsov led the club with six goals and 20 points in 16 games. Ovechkin has a team-leading 12 goals and 19 points.

— Prior to Tuesday’s action, Washington’s power play (31.5 per cent) was second only to Winnipeg (34 per cent)… The Caps have been dreadful on the penalty kill with a 71.7 per cent mark, good for 29th in the NHL after 16 games. Winnipeg, meanwhile, was 16th at 81 per cent.
