The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed former Boston Red Sox farmhand Kevin McAvoy, the American Association baseball team announced Thursday.

The 25-year-old right-hander from Syracuse, N.Y., has pitched for the double-A Eastern League’s Portland Sea Dogs the past three seasons. In 2018, McAvoy struck out 84 and allowed just seven home runs over 91 1/3 innings, splitting time between Portland and the high-A Carolina League’s Salem Red Sox.

“I’m hoping Kevin can impact our rotation in a positive way,” Fish manager Rick Forney said in a release. “I think he has the stuff to be a real horse in the American Association.”

McAvoy is entering his sixth season as a professional and is 26-37 with one save and a 4.81 ERA in 107 appearances, 96 of them as a starter.

The 6-4, 230-pounder was drafted by the Red Sox in the fourth round in 2014 out of Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.

Winnipeg has 25 players under contract for the 2019 season. Spring training opens May 4.
