Leobaldo Pina homered, drove in three runs and scored twice to power the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to an 11-8 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes in American Association baseball action at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D., Thursday night.
The RedHawks used a nine-run fourth inning to overcome an early 3-0 lead by the Goldeyes and they proceeded to hold on for the win, their second of the season against four losses.
Winnipeg dropped to 4-2 overall and sits in second place in the American Association, which has been reduced to six teams during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Winnipeg starter Frank Duncan (1-1) took the loss after a 3 2/3-inning stint, giving up seven hits, four walks and eight earned runs with two strikeouts.
Ryan Flores came in for the Fish, surrendering six hits and two runs in 2 1/3 innings. Dylan Rheault went two innings, allowing one run, a walk and two hits while striking out. Justin Kamplain pitched a scoreless ninth.
Darnell Sweeney of the Fish went 3-for-4 with one RBI, improving his batting average to .292. Jordan George went 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season and two RBIs. His average went to .391.
Redhawks reliever Bret Helton (1-0) was credited with the victory after yielding three hits, two runs and one walk in three innings of work.
Veteran lefty Kevin McGovern (0-0) is scheduled to make the start for the Goldeyes tonight when they visit Sioux Falls for the first game of a three-game set against the Canaries. Winnipeg will remain in Sioux Falls for a three-game series beginning Monday against the St. Paul’s Saints.
