VALOUR FC fans were treated to a third straight victory as the Winnipeg club is rolling with three more points in the bubble, defeating York United FC by a stunning 3-0 score.

Going into Sunday’s matchup, Valour sat three points ahead of the Canadian Premier League’s defending champion Forge FC with a game on hand. After Sunday’s victory, Valour stays alone at the top of the CPL table, a comfortable six points ahead of Forge and seven ahead of Pacific FC and Cavalry FC.

In the 18th minute, Valour looked to begin their night on the offensive as Sean Rea geared up for a Valour corner. Rea was able to get enough power on the kick to reach an unguarded Stefan Cebara, who notched his first goal of the season with a great header. Cebara, who stood out defensively against Atlético Ottawa in Valour’s previous match, continued his impressive play Sunday evening.

Continuing his excellent work in net, Valour goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois dazzled the Winnipeg crowd in the 34th minute after a foul by William Akio inside the penalty area. Osvaldo Ramirez who has remained goalless for York United this season at the striker position, was stunned by Sirois on the penalty shot, who guessed right and kept his club ahead.

After missing on a 4-0 counterattack in the 35th minute, Valour’s Austin Ricci, who had been kept off the scoresheet against Ottawa, was determined to get on the board. Six minutes later, Ricci accepted a beautiful feed from Rea and tallied his third goal of the season.

In the second half, Ricci narrowly missed on a stretch pass in the 60th minute. Twelve minutes later, the striker was rewarded handsomely when making a terrific run to the net and accepting a pass from Moses Dyer. Ricci would not miss again, netting his second of the game. The native of Richmond Hill, Ont., leads the league in goals with four on the season.

Winnipeg fans who saw Valour struggle against York United in their first meeting of the season, were delighted Sunday as the hometown club dominated in possession.

Despite the shot totals favouring York United 18 to eight, Sirois stood tall again notching his sixth clean sheet of the season.

Valour, 6-0-1 through seven games will now have a few days to rest before playing their final game in the bubble format on Saturday against Halifax Wanderers.
