SLOAN Stanick scored 3:03 into overtime to lift the Prince Albert Raiders to a stunning 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Ice in WHL action at Wayne Fleming Arena Sunday night.
The Raiders, who entered the game last in the East Division, roared back from a 3-0 second-period deficit to hand Winnipeg its first home loss in 14 games this season.
Evan Herman, Reece Vitelli and Landon Kosior also scored for Prince Albert, which improved to 8-12-0-1.
The Ice had a golden opportunity to score the winning goal in extra time with Raiders defenceman Kaiden Guhle in the penalty box for high-sticking but P.A. killed off the penalty to set the stage for Stanick’s winner.
Matt Savoie, Conor Geekie and Mikey Milne replied with goals for the Ice, which is first in the East with a 21-1-1-0 record.
Winnipeg went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Raiders did not have a man advantage.
The Ice entered the game with five healthy defencemen. That number was reduced by one when Owen Boucher left the game with an unspecified injury. Veteran forward Jakin Smallwood moved back to play on the blue-line in the third period.
Tikhon Chaika made 33 saves in the Prince Albert net. Winnipeg goaltender Daniel Hauser made 24 saves a lost for the first time in 10 starts this season.
