The Winnipeg Jets have signed college free agent Wyatt Bongiovanni to a two-year, entry-level contract.
The 22-year-old forward from Michigan will be paid an average annual value in the NHL of US $802,500. His deal begins next season.
Bongiovanni, who is 6-foot-0 and weighs 195 pounds, has signed an amateur tryout contract with the Manitoba Moose and will join the AHL club for the remainder of the current campaign.
He recently finished senior season with the Quinnipiac Bobcats in the ECAC where he had 34 points (16G, 18A) 42 games. He was the captain of the club and led the team in scoring for the past three years.
Overall, Bongiovanni played 123 games over his four seasons with the Bobcats and recorded 90 points (50G, 40A). He played three seasons in the USHL prior to attending Quinnipiac and posted 79 points (32G, 47A) in 152 games.
Speaking of the Moose, they continued to be red-hot on Saturday as they downed the Rockford Icehogs 3-2 at Canada Life Centre to improve to 38-21-7 on the year.
They are comfortably in second place in their division, sixth overall in the AHL, with six regular-season games remaining before the playoffs begin next month.
Evan Polei and Nicholas Jones each had a goal and an assist, while Jeff Malott scored the game-winner. Mikhail Berdin made 17 saves for the victory.
The clubs play again Sunday afternoon in the re-match.
