STONEWALL — Team Manitoba utterly dominated their prairie rival Saskatchewan by a score of 24-2 at Fines Field on Thursday morning and moved to 2-0 in 22U Men’s Baseball Canada Championship.

The Manitoban team is made up of the 2022 Elmwood Giants squad who won the Manitoba Junior Baseball League Championship a year ago. The team also added six players from other Junior teams in the province to bolster the roster.

One of those additions is Easton Grieve who showcased he was well worth a spot on the roster. He was a perfect four for four at the plate along with a walk and tallied four RBIs on the game as well. The right-fielder took home player of the game honours.

Easton Grieve (pictured while playing for the St. James A’s) helped Team Manitoba utterly dominate their prairie rival Saskatchewan by a score of 24-2 at Fines Field on Thursday morning as they moved to 2-0 in the 22U Men’s Baseball Canada Championship. The right-fielder took home player of the game honours.

“Our bats didn’t stop the whole game so constantly having base runners every inning so it made it kind of easy to drive in runs when you’re getting guys on every inning,” said Grieve after the Tuesday morning contest.

The Manitoba offense absolutely took off in the fourth inning scoring nine runs in the fourth inning and managed to top that output in the next inning putting up 14 runs in the fifth. Manitoba registered 21 hits as a team in the game.

While the offense may have been the headline, Manitoba manager Ed Kulyk says his team’s pitching was equally excellent.

“We had fantastic pitching,” said Kulyk.

Ethan Minaker set the tone for the Manitoban team, hurling four hitless innings and striking out four. Minaker surrendered a walk for his only baserunner. Nixon Carriere came in to pitch in the fifth inning with a 24-0 lead, and surrendered two runs on two hits and a walk.

Manitoba takes on the second Ontario team at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

The Interlake Blue Jays are also representing Manitoba as the host team and took on Nova Scotia at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

The tournament continues in Stonewall until Monday, August 7.
