The Winnipeg Goldeyes struck out in their first game of the 2024 campaign.
The baseball club opened the American Association season with a 5-3 loss to the Cleburne Railroaders in Texas on Thursday.
Kasey Kalich earned the win while allowing two runs in 3 1/3 innings of work for the hosts. Colton Eastman picked up the loss for Goldeyes after giving up four runs in five innings.
Eastman was tagged for two home runs — a two-run shot by Brian O’Grady in the second inning and a solo bomb by Carter Aldrete in the fourth — which proved to be the difference.
Dayson Croes accounted for two of the Goldeyes’ three RBI on the night.
Thursday’s contest was the first of a six-game series for the Fish in the Lone Star state. The club will play on the road for 10 games before returning home for its opener against the Chicago Dogs on May 21.
