Hey there, time traveller!

Allan McDonald got the best start one could ask for at the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship Thursday at the Minnedosa Golf & Country Club.
With a 10-under par 62 in the opening round of the tournament, McDonald, 32, of Breezy Bend will go into Friday at the top of the leaderboard — and with the course record in his name.
“We were having lunch here (Wednesday) after the practice round,” said McDonald Thursday. “And I asked ‘What’s the course record here?’ And someone said it was 65 or 64, and I was the one that said ‘Yeah, that’ll probably be broke this week.’ And I was lucky enough to do it.”

Addison Kartusch was atop the leaderboard after nine holes in the rain-delayed women’s amateur.
Hitting 18 greens and having a hot putter was the recipe for success for McDonald on the wet Minnedosa course, which was surprisingly calm with little wind despite being on the prairie.
“Everything was full shots on the number,” said McDonald who won the Mid-Amateur Championship in 2020. “The course was wet, but overall good day.”
McDonald hit 11 birdies, six pars and a bogey during round one.
The course record was previously held by Darren Hupfer, who carded a 65 in June 2007.
“It does mean a lot,” said McDonald on breaking the record. “Because I do have family that does live here, I’m staying at their place now, so my cousin already texted me saying, awesome round. So yeah, it does mean a lot. I know it’s probably going to be fairly hard to break in the future, so it’s probably going to be around for a while.”
Michael Coutts of Southwood and Derek Cameron of the host course sit behind McDonald tied for second place, both 4-under par with scores of 68 after 18 holes.
Unfortunately, not everyone got through 18, as the calm weather did not last long with thunderstorms suspending play mid-afternoon.
The players returned to the course at 4 p.m., only to discover it unplayable, cancelling play for the rest of the day.
For the Women’s Amateurs who started just after 11:30 a.m., most of the golfers still have the back nine or more left to play.
Currently, Addison Kartusch sits at the top of the leaderboard, at even par after nine holes. The Winnipeg teen who plays out of St. Charles is followed by Hannah Diamond of St. Charles, Clara Peake of Minnedosa, Crystal Zamzow of Swan River and India Young of Carman, who are all 1-over par.
The tournament resumes Friday morning.
