Winnipeg Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier has been been named the Executive of the Year by the American Association.
The award comes after a season in which his Fish rebounded from a last-place finish in the West Division to finish on top with a 56-43 recorded under first-year skipper Logan Watkins, who was named manager of the year last week.
Collier, now in his 23rd year at the helm of the Goldeyes, previously won the award in 2014 in the American Association, and in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2009 in the now-defunct Northern League.
Collier, who began as a ticket sales rep with the Goldeyes in 1994, was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball of Fame as a Builder in 2018. He is also the Treasurer and an original board member of the Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation.
“Andrew has been with the Goldeyes for 31 seasons and during that time he has performed too many tasks in too many departments to mention,” Goldeyes President and Chief Executive Officer Sam Katz said in a statement.
“Andrew knows that you are only as good as the staff that surrounds you, and he surrounds himself with the best. You will not find a General Manager more deserving of this honour than Andrew.”
The Goldeyes are currently competing in the Miles Wolff Cup Final but trail the best-of-five series 2-0 after weekend losses in Illinois to the Kane County Cougars.
They’ll host Game 3 on Tuesday night at Blue Cross Park. Games 4 and 5, if necessary, would be held Wednesday and Thursday at the downtown diamond.
