University of Manitoba Bisons blue-liner Erica Rieder has been named a U Sports first-team all-Canadian, it was announced Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Regina product finished the 2018-19 regular season as the leading point-getter in Canada West women’s hockey among blue-liners, scoring four goals and 17 points in 28 games. Rieder also had a team-high plus-27 rating, which put her fourth overall and tops among conference blue-liners.

Rieder, a fifth-year player, is captain of the Bisons. She earned her third consecutive Canada West first team all-star selection earlier this season.

Manitoba begins its defence of last year’s national championship in quarter-final action against the Guelph Gryphons this afternoon in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

“Erica has asserted herself as one of the top defencemen in the country year after year, and I am happy that she has been recognized as such,” interim Bisons head coach Sean Fisher said in a release. “She is a terrific leader both on and off the ice, and this is a great recognition in her fifth year.”
