NEW YORK – Chris Dahl has been promoted to director of communications of the Major League Baseball Players Association, a position that had been open since Greg Bouris resigned last February.

The union also said Friday that Jerry Crasnick had been hired as senior adviser for player, agent and media relations. Crasnick had been a senior baseball writer for ESPN.

Dahl, 60, has worked for the union for 22 years. He was a sports reporter for The Associated Press from 1983-89, then spent two years as secretary-treasurer of the Wire Service Guild. He worked for Pinnacle Brands in baseball and football trading card marketing from 1991-96. He started with the players’ association to help launch the union’s website and was assistant director of communications and then interim director of communications.

Crasnick, also 60, wrote for The Cincinnati Post from 1988-93 and The Denver Post from 1993-97. He had been with ESPN since 2003.

Gretchen Mueller was promoted to managing director of digital media and creative strategy, and Anthony Solis was hired as communications co-ordinator.
