ST. LOUIS – The Los Angeles Dodgers placed left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a strained left groin.

The same injury sidelined Ryu for more than half of last season, but he said Monday night that he did not believe this injury was as serious. Ryu left with two outs in the second inning of a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Manager Dave Roberts said Ryu did not undergo an MRI and that Ryu “did feel a little better” on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old left-hander hurt his groin last May 2 and did not return to the Dodgers until Aug. 15. At the time of last year’s injury, Ryu said he previously injured the groin in May 2016.

On Monday night, Ryu threw a first-pitch strike to Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas, then stepped off the mound and looked toward the Los Angeles dugout. Roberts, head athletic trainer Neil Rampe and interpreter Bryan Lee went to the mound along with the Dodgers infielders, and after a short discussion, Roberts took the ball and Ryu walked to the bench.

Ryu is 2-0 with a 3.07 ERA this season. He threw 34 pitches against the Cardinals and allowed Marcell Ozuna’s two-run homer in the first.

The Dodgers recalled right-hander J.T. Chargois to take Ryu’s place on the roster. It will be his first stint this season for Los Angeles. Last season, he went 2-4 with a 3.34 ERA.
