METS ON THE MOVE

The Mets go for their 13th win in 14 tries and a four-game sweep when lefty Steven Matz (6-7, 4.60) faces Miami’s Jordan Yamamoto (4-2, 3.94) at Citi Field. The hard-charging Mets are 58-56, a sharp turnaround since losing their first game after the All-Star break and falling 11 games under .500.

Mets rookie Pete Alonso has homered in two straight games and ranks among the major league leaders with 36.

BANGED-UP BREWERS

Major league home run leader Christian Yelich could be back in the Milwaukee lineup after sitting out a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh.

Manager Craig Counsell gave Yelich a day off to help deal with a nagging back injury. The NL MVP has 39 homers, and is batting .336 with 84 RBIs.

Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain exited the game at Miller Park with a bruised left knee, shortly after fouling a ball off himself.

The Yankees will see how All-Star second baseman Gleyber Torres is feeling, a day after he exited a game at Baltimore in the third inning with what the team described as “core pain.”

Torres left Sunday night’s game against Boston with a core muscle injury but was back in the lineup against the Orioles on Monday as the designated hitter, going 0 for 5 with two strikeouts.

He started at second base on Tuesday night, going hitless in two at-bats before leaving.

The Giants have cut second baseman Joe Panik, no longer needing him to play regularly after getting Scooter Gennett at the trade deadline.

The 28-year-old Panik, a first-round draft pick by the Giants in 2011 and key contributor on San Francisco’s 2014 World Series champion team, was batting .235 with three homers and 27 RBIs in 103 games this season.

Panik was designated for assignment on Tuesday.
