Hey there, time traveller!

Third baseman Santiago Espinal, who has put together a breakout performance for the Blue Jays this season, landed on the injured list Sunday after suffering a right hip flexor strain a day earlier.
“He had (an) MRI and … it showed that it’s a little severe but I think he’ll be all right,” Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said after Sunday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. “It’s not as bad (as it could be) but enough to go on the IL.”
Jarrod Dyson, a 37-year-old outfielder claimed off waivers Friday, was activated in the corresponding move after reporting to his new team at Comerica Park. Dyson came off the bench as a pinch runner in Sunday’s 2-1 victory and went 0-for-1 at the plate.

Timely hits and a steady glove helped Espinal, 26, emerge as Toronto’s first choice at third base, with Cavan Biggio moving around as a super-utility option in between a number of injury issues of his own. Biggio is currently sidelined with a Grade 1 strain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, which he suffered last weekend while playing for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
Espinal has hit .290 with a .732 OPS in 83 games this year.
Rookie Kevin Smith, who made his big-league debut last week, started at third for Toronto on Sunday, hitting the series-clinching home run. He and Valera will likely share duties at the hot corner until Espinal is able to return.
