Hey there, time traveller!

The Blue Jays added some depth for the stretch run by signing struggling outfielder Gregory Polanco to a minor league deal on Tuesday night.
The deal was finalized just a few hours before the deadline for post-season eligibility. Players acquired after Aug. 31 are not permitted to continue playing for their new team after the regular season comes to an end.
Polanco has a pair of 20-plus homer seasons on his resume but hasn’t been effective for at least a couple years. In 50 games for the Pirates last season, he hit .153 with a dreadful .539 on-base plus slugging and this year hasn’t been much better with a .208 average and .637 OPS.

The 29-year-old was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh earlier this month but went unclaimed. After he was released, the Jays offered a minor league deal that doesn’t come with any guarantees but with rosters set to expand by two on Wednesday he could carve out a bench role on a team that lacks left-handed bats.
The Jays also announced on Tuesday night that they re-signed Elvis Luciano to a minor league deal. Luciano was released earlier this month to clear room on the 40-man roster but he was expected to remain with the club and his deal is now official. The former Rule 5 pick has a 3.41 ERA in 11 starts for Double-A New Hampshire this season.
