DUNEDIN, Fla. – Right-hander Jose Berrios will be Toronto’s opening-day starter when the Blue Jays face the Texas Rangers at Rogers Centre on April 8.
The Blue Jays made the announcement Thursday.
The opening-day start will be Berrios’s first with Toronto but third overall. He also did so twice with the Minnesota Twins (2019, ’20).
Toronto acquired Berrios last summer at the trade deadline from Minnesota. He went 5-4 with a 3.58 earned-run average in 12 starts with the Blue Jays.
Then in the off-season, Berrios signed a seven-year, US$131-million extension with Toronto.
