Royals agree to deals with 4 pitchers, including Brady Singer, to avoid salary arbitration

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals and right-hander Brady Singer agreed to a $4.85 million, one-year contract Thursday, and fellow pitchers Nick Anderson, Carlos Hernández and Kyle Wright also agreed to deals that kept Kansas City from going to arbitration this year.

Singer got a big bump from the $2.95 million he made last season, even though the 27-year-old former first-round draft pick had a disappointing year. He went 8-11 in 29 starts with a 5.52 ERA that was nearly 2 1/2 runs higher than the previous season.

Anderson, who was acquired from Atlanta to help fortify the bullpen, agreed to a $1,575,000 deal. He was 4-0 with a 3.06 ERA and one save in 35 appearances for the Braves, who romped to the NL East title but lost in the NL Divisional Series.

Hernández agreed to a $1,012,500 contract after going 1-10 with a 5.27 ERA last season for Kansas City.

Wright is not expected to pitch in 2024 but will make $1.8 million as he rehabs from shoulder surgery last October. The Royals also acquired the former 20-game winner from Atlanta in a trade for right-hander Jackson Kowar.
