The Winnipeg Goldeyes were rained out Sunday afternoon in what was supposed to be the finale of their three-game homestand against the Kansas City Monarchs at Blue Cross Park.

After an initial rain delay pushed the 1 p.m. start time to 1:50 p.m., the Goldeyes were forced to end things early, trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the third.

The Goldeyes ended the shortened six-game homestand 1-4 and will start a six-game road trip Tuesday against the Chicago Dogs.

Their lone win of the homestand came Wednesday against the Kane County Cougars, when the Fish put up seven runs in game two of the series. However, they went on to drop the series with a tight 2-1 loss on Thursday.

Other than the 7-2 win on Wednesday, the bats have been relatively silent for the Fish, who managed just three runs in the weekend series against the Monarchs.

Game one against of the series against Kansas City was bittersweet as, although the Fish fell 6-2, Max Murphy made history by tying Goldeyes legend Reggie Abercrombie for the franchise record with his 92nd home run.

However, it only put a small dent in the 6-0 lead the Monarchs had built. In the eighth inning, the Goldeyes had a chance for a comeback with the bases loaded, but were only able to push Braxton Turner across home plate to cut the deficit to 6-2.

In game two of the series, any chance of redemption was stifled by the Monarchs’ league-leading offence in what turned out to be a 9-0 blowout. The Goldeyes allowed three runs over the first five innings, then fell completely apart in the sixth, giving up five more. The Monarchs added one more in the ninth for assurance.

The Goldeyes allowed 14 hits and only mustered two of their own in the loss. Southpaw Mitchell Lambson got the start on the mound for the Fish, allowing 10 hits and seven runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched, while striking out four.

In Sunday’s incomplete game, the Goldeyes got on the board early with a run by Ramon Bramasco at the bottom of the first to open the scoring 1-0.

However, the West Division-leading Monarchs could not be held off for long, adding two runs to take a 2-1 lead at the top of the third.

Luke Boyd started for the Fish, allowing four hits and two runs, with two strikeouts.

The game is postponed to a later date, which has yet to be announced.
