SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp was carted off the field after he was hit by a line drive by Ramón Laureano of the San Diego Padres in the third inning Wednesday night.
Roupp has a sprained left knee and was being sent back to San Francisco for an MRI, manager Bob Melvin said after an 8-1 loss.
Roupp left Petco Park in a cart with a large brace on his left knee.

Roupp was hit on the back of his right thigh and the impact spun him part way around. He appeared to slip on the mound, his left knee buckled and he went down to the ground face-first. He sat up and was holding his left knee as he was checked by a trainer before being loaded onto a cart.
“The ball hit him in the back of the leg, I think,” Melvin said. “It was when he caught himself and then when he had to go for the ball again. I don’t know if he hyperextended it; it was scary for a second.”
Joey Lucchesi replaced Roupp and allowed a three-run homer by Gavin Sheets that gave the Padres a 6-0 lead.
Roupp was reinstated off the 15-day injured list on Friday after missing three starts with right elbow inflammation.
