TORONTO – The defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series starting Friday night at Rogers Centre.
The Dodgers are listed as a -220 favourite on BetMGM to win the Fall Classic, meaning a $220 bet would be needed to win $100.
The Blue Jays, who have home-field advantage for the best-of-seven series, were listed at +180, meaning a $100 bet would win you $180.
Here’s a look at the predictions from five reporters who were asked for their picks on the eve of Game 1:
ANDY SCHOLES, CNN SPORTS
Pick: Dodgers in five. “(Shohei) Ohtani is the best player in the world, maybe the best player ever, and then Freddie Freeman is as clutch as they come. So I just can’t imagine those guys not being able to pull this out.”
—
ROB LONGLEY, TORONTO SUN
Pick: Dodgers in six. “I just think the depth and the superstar factor is the edge.”
—
RYO SASAYAMA, NHK JAPAN
Pick: Blue Jays in seven. “That would be really interesting if (they) did it like they did in the ALCS.”
—
MARTY KLINKENBERG, GLOBE AND MAIL
Pick: Dodgers in six. “I think their lineup is deeper. I could see a situation where the Blue Jays could win, I just think it’s a longer shot.”
—
JON HEYMAN, NEW YORK POST
Pick: Dodgers in six. “Well they didn’t spend $400 million bucks for nothing, did they?”
