TORONTO – Alec Bohm kick-started a three-run third-inning with an RBI single, Cristopher Sanchez had 10 strikeouts, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 on Monday.

Adolis Garcia homered, while J.T. Realmuto and Bryson Stott also drove in runs for Philadelphia (36-30), which earned its fifth win in six games.

Sanchez (8-2) gave up four hits, two runs and one walk in seven innings of work. Jhoan Duran earned the save after Brad Keller took over in the eighth from Sanchez.

Yohendrick Pinango had a groundout RBI and Ernie Clement homered for Toronto (32-35).

Blue Jays starter Patrick Corbin (2-3) gave up five runs, four hits, four walks and had three strikeouts in just three innings. Canadian Adam Macko, Simeon Woods Richardson and Tommy Nance pitched in relief.

Garcia opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the second inning that brought home Stott.

Things quickly went downhill for Corbin in the third. After Kyle Schwarber hit a fly out to start the inning, Corbin walked Trea Turner, who stole second on the next at-bat. Corbin then walked Bryce Harper and the bases were loaded after Corbin hit Brandon Marsh with a pitch.

Bohm drilled a single to score Turner, which led to a mound visit for Corbin who was given a chance to stay in. On the next at-bat Realmuto singled to score Harper, and Marsh scored after Stott was walked to make it 5-0, with the bases still loaded.

Pinango hit a groundout to bring in Myles Straw for Toronto’s first run in the third inning. Clement hit his seventh homer of the season in the fifth inning.

Phillies: Philadelphia entered the game having won four of its last five and having gone through a 21-game stretch of playing teams over .500, going 14-7 in that span. The Phillies showed their mettle and were advantageous when Corbin presented chances to take hold of the game.

Blue Jays: Corbin threw two of his three strikeouts in the opening inning before completely falling apart in the third inning. Toronto struggled to keep up offensively against Sanchez, who held up his end of the bargain for Philadelphia.

Marsh getting hit by a pitch in the third pushed the Phillies forward as Corbin looked out of his element and put himself in a jam he struggled to get out of.

Corbin reached 1,900 career strikeouts when he got Edmundo Sosa out to end the second inning.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays will have ace Dylan Cease (3-3, 3.05 ERA) back on Tuesday after being on the injured list since May 25 due to a hamstring strain. The Phillies will counter with starter Zack Wheeler (5-1, 2.31 ERA).
