Meakin earns junior berth
Breanne Meakin will get a chance to defend her Manitoba junior women’s title winning a junior berth bonspiel Sunday. Meakin defeated Brandon’s Darcy Maywood 7-2. Victoria’s Kate Cameron earned the other berth. Junior men’s spots went to Assiniboine Memorial’s Derek Blanchard and Deer Lodge’s Joey Witherspoon.
Meanwhile, Dauphin’s Greg Todoruk qualified for the Manitoba men’s curling championship by winning the northern berth bonspiel in Flin Flon.
Five represent Manitoba
Five Manitoba teams will be among the 20 men’s and women’s rinks competing at the Canada Cup in Medicine Hat, Alta., this week.
Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones and Chelsea Carey — the two Manitoba women’s entries — will meet on the first draw Wednesday morning.
Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen and Jeff Stoughton and Brandon’s Rob Fowler will represent the Manitoba men.
