Hey there, time traveller!

DEER Lodge Curling Club’s Sean Grassie defeated Bob Sigurdson of the Granite 8-3 to win the 2011 Chicken Chef Mixed Provincial Championship at the Swan River Curling Club.
The Grassie rink, made up of third Tracey Lavery, second Scott McCamis and lead Calleen Neufeld, will now represent Manitoba in the 2011 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Sudbury, Ont., this fall.
“It’s definitely great coming out on the winning side. I was very happy for the team. We got on a roll this week and kept going,” said Grassie on Monday. “Calleen got every end set up so well for us, and it made our jobs easier. Everyone played well. Once we got a lead, we hit well. Scott really peeled well the whole week, and that made a difference.”
Team Grassie earned their way to the final by defeating Terry McNamee (Hamiota CC) 5-2 in the 1 vs. 1 page playoff while Sigurdson beat McNamee 6-5 in the semifinal.
Grassie previously won the Manitoba mixed championship in 2009.
“It’s a completely different lineup. Sorta similar in styles,” said Grassie. “Not a whole lot of difference in terms of their abilities. We just clicked really well.”
Grassie pointed to his coach and father Jack as key contributor to his curling success.
“He’s been my coach all throughout curling, and got me started in the game to begin with,” said Grassie. “He does a great job with us. We practise quite a bit together as a mixed team, which I think really pays off. And he’s really good at analysing deliveries and working out things like that. He’s pretty good with the strategy and gave us a pep talk to keep doing what we’re doing.”
