What’s at stake

The winner will advance to Sunday evening’s Canadian final, while the loser will get a second chance in Sunday morning’s semifinal against the winner of today’s 3 vs. 4 game between Canada’s Heather Nedohin and B.C.’s Kelly Scott.

Head to head

Homan won a meeting between the two teams at a bonspiel in Calgary last October when Jones third Kaitlyn Lawes was skipping the team in the absence of Jones.

The only other meeting between the two teams came during the round robin on Thursday morning, when Manitoba defeated Ontario 9-7.

Key stat

93-71 — Jones badly outshot Homan at the skip position in their round-robin matchup.

Key matchup

Manitoba third Kaitlyn Lawes vs. Ontario third Emma Miskew.

Lawes struggled in both of Jones’s playoff games at last year’s Scotties and also struggled during the first half of her team’s game against Ontario earlier this week. When Lawes is on, she’s the very best in the game, as evidenced by her field-leading 82 per cent shooting percentage heading into Friday night.

But Miskew is no slouch either — she was fourth at 78 per cent heading into Friday night — and if she’s on and Lawes is off, that will go a long way to neutralizing the advantage Jones teams always have at skip.
