The home-rink edge didn’t aid Manitoba’s Dean Dunstone, who came up well short of making the playoffs at the 2018 Canadian mixed curling championship in Swan River.

The Dunstone team, with third Natalie Claude Harding, second Peter Nicholls and lead Renee Fletcher, finished the round-robin with a 1-5 record in their pool, and missed the championship round.

The East St. Paul team earned its lone victory Monday — a 10-2 win over Nunavut — but suffered defeats against Quebec, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland-Labrador and Alberta.

Dunstone posted a 7-5 victory Thursday morning over the Yukon in a game in the seeding pool, which determines positions for next year’s championship.

Quebec’s Robert Desjardins finished the round-robin with a 6-0 record. Joining them in the championship pool are Ontario’s Mike Anderson and New Brunswick’s Charlie Sullivan, each with 5-1 records, followed by Chris Ford of Newfoundland-Labrador, Brent MacDougall of Nova Scotia and Jamie Koe of the Northwest Territories, with 4-2 records, and Warren Cross of Alberta and Charlie Robert of Northern Ontario, at 3-3.

Play in the championship pool concludes today, and will be followed by two semifinals Saturday morning and the gold-medal game Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
