Hey there, time traveller!

A partnership of former Brier champions made for an easy pick as the top-ranked team at next week’s Manitoba men’s curling championship.
One of them is an Olympic champion, as well.
The Reid Carruthers team from the Granite is the No.1 seed for the 2024 Viterra, set to begin Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Veterans Memorial Complex in Stonewall. Carruthers, who won the Brier in 2011 playing with skip Jeff Stoughton, has 2013 Brier winner and 2014 Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs tossing fourth stones this season.
And the front end is as solid as they come, with Connor Njegovan at lead and Derek Samagalski at second. The Carruthers quartet is currently fifth on the men’s Canadian Team Ranking System and is 10th in the world rankings.
Carruthers and Jacobs are the only former Brier champions in the 32-team Viterra field.
A year ago, Carruthers, Samagalski and Njegovan lost the Manitoba final to Matt Dunstone of Fort Rouge.
The Ryan Wiebe team from Fort Rouge is the Viterra’s No. 2 seed. Wiebe is supported by third Ty Dilello, second Sean Flatt and lead Adam Flatt, and the crew is ranked 15th on the CTRS.
Braden Calvert, also of Fort Rouge, with third Corey Chambers, second Kyle Kurz and lead Brendan Bilawka, is the third seed.
Seeded fourth is Jordan McDonald of Assiniboine Memorial, who is joined by teammates Dallas Burgess at third, Elias Huminicki at second and Cameron Olafson at lead.
The fifth seed is Brett Walter, also of Assiniboine Memorial, with third JT Ryan, second Graham McFarlane and lead Hugh McFarlane.
Eight teams will qualify for the championship round, beginning Friday, Feb. 9 in the evening. From there, four survivors battle in the playoffs for the right to wear the buffalo at the Canadian championship in Regina in early March.
The championship game is set for Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2:30 p.m.
Dunstone isn’t in the field as his squad has already qualified for the Brier.
