THE season may have ended with a thud, but two Winnipeg Blue Bombers can add 2008 CFL Defensive All-Star Team to their resumes.
Defensive tackle Doug Brown and linebacker Zeke Moreno were both named to the squad after voting was conducted by 46 members, including representation from the Football Reporters of Canada, the eight CFL head coaches and fans from across the country.
Brown joins three B.C. Lions on the all-star D-line, including ends Cam Wake and Brent Johnson and tackle Aaron Hunt. Moreno is part of a linebacking corps that features two Saskatchewan Roughriders, Anton McKenzie and Maurice Lloyd.
The secondary, meanwhile, features safety Barron Miles and cornerback Dante Marsh, both of the Lions, along with halfbacks Jason Goss of the Edmonton Eskimos and Chris Thompson of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Calgary Stampeder corner Brandon Browner.
The 2008 CFL Offensive All-Star Team will be unveiled today.
Brown got another bit of good news on Wednesday, as he was also named the Canadian Player of the Week for his work in last Saturday’s East Semifinal loss to the Eskimos — a game in which he had six tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss.
Also honoured was Bomber kick returner Jason Armstead, who was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week after returning nine punts for 122 yards including a 93-yard touchdown. It was Armstead’s third player-of-the-week award this season, all coming in the last seven weeks.
