THE FINAL DRESS REHEARSAL

BLUE BOMBERS at ALOUETTES

When: Today, 6 p.m. (CJOB)

Where: Percival Molson Stadium, Montreal

THE QB ROTATION:

Stefan LeFors will start the game and play the first half and the first series of the third quarter, followed by Bryan Randall and Richie Williams.

WHO’S NOT HERE:

Not making the trip for the Bombers are DT Doug Brown, running backs Joe Smith and Fred Reid, cornerback James Johnson, linebackers Siddeeq Shabazz and Pierre-Luc Labbe, defensive ends Fred Perry and Chase Ortiz, offensive linemen Jean-Francois Morin-Roberge, Matt O’Meara and Thaddeus Coleman and receiver Brock Ralph. Of that group, Johnson, Shabazz, Labbe, Ortiz, Coleman and Ralph all have an assortment of hurts or are just recovering.

THREE JUICY STORYINES

1. Who returns kickoff and punts? Two prime candidates — Ramonce Taylor and John Eubanks — were axed last week. Lavarus Giles and Yvenson Bernard will return kickoffs with Jovon Johnson and Arjei Franklin apparently getting looks at punt return.

“We have several very solid candidates,” said head coach Mike Kelly. “Obviously kick returners are important and field position is going to be a big part of what we do. We feel we have some guys who are skilled at catching the ball and crafty enough to make the first man miss.”

2. Why aren’t Smith and Reid here? Good question. Reid seems to be safe, but rumours which began circulating in the winter about Smith being on the trade market won’t go away. Both Reid and Smith are making significantly more coin than the newcomers, Giles and Bernard. And Giles is a physical clone of Smith.

3. Will Bomber fans recognize anybody in the secondary? As it stands, Ian Logan at safety and Jovon Johnson at halfback are the only returnees. Expect Lenny Walls to be the other half while Keyuo Craver, Ronyell Whitaker, James Johnson and Brandon Stewart are all in the fight for work back here.

WHO’S ON THE BUBBLE?

Read into this what you will, but the coaches don’t keep raving about Giles by accident. Also getting a lot of love are two new linebackers — Jonathan Hefney and Jasper Johnson — both of whom are pushing veteran Ike Charlton.

Rumours about Derick Armstrong being on the bubble are just that. The Bombers hope to showcase a variety of offensive looks that will get Armstong, Terrence Edwards, Romby Bryant AND newcomer Adarius Bowman on the field at the same time.

SNEAK PEEK AT THE ALS…

Anthony Calvillo is clearly Montreal’s No. 1 gun, with Adrian McPherson pegged as the heir apparent. The Als also have former Florida star Chris Leak in their employ and former Bomber Brad Banks. He’ll play the second quarter against the Bombers.
