The Bombers picked off three passes Saturday with Lenny Walls, Siddeeq Shabazz and Jovon Johnson all stealing Ticat throws. Winnipeg also had three in the win over Calgary and has seven this year, tops in the CFL.

QB controversy… in Hamilton?

“We’ll make a decision on our starter by (Monday) and it won’t be a secret… that’s why we signed Kevin, because he can pitch in.” — Ticat head coach Marcel Bellefeuille on QBs Kevin Glenn and Quinton Porter.

Quotable

“It makes me feel like I’m in The Twilight Zone when I see him run out of the pocket.” — Bombers defensive tackle Doug Brown on Kevin Glenn’s 27 yards on three carries, including a 22-yard run on second-and-20.

UP NEXT:

The Bombers may opt to take a look at Craphonso Thorpe as the possible answer to their kick-return troubles.

James Johnson and Fred Reid handled the majority of the returns in Saturday’s loss — although Jon Oosterhuis did field two pooch kickoffs — but too often the ball is bouncing or not being fielded cleanly.

Interestingly, the Bombers placed Thorpe, signed just last week, on their four-man reserve list.

That not only means they like the skill set of the former Florida State receiver/returner/track star, but he could be activated as soon as he’s ready to handle all the nuances of the CFL return game.

AND MORE ON THAT:

The Bombers repeatedly lost the battle for territory as Ticats punter Nick Setta finished with a net punting average of more than 50 yards.

As well, Hamilton began three possessions in Winnipeg territory, including two of their last four.

“It was frustrating,” said Bombers linebacker Barrin Simpson. “We let them beat us in the field-position game. They beat us on special teams and that was a large part of it because they had field position all night long. We were backed up and they were playing on our side of the field. Defensively, we played a good ball game but it wasn’t enough.

“It’s back to the practice field now. That’s a disappointing loss,” Simpson added. “But we’ve got a game Friday and we’ve got to get ready for that one. It’s a long season.

“We’re at home this week and we’ve got to protect our house.”
