Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 17/10/2009 (5835 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
THE Blue Bombers, despite being at home to the B.C. Lions Sunday and winners of three straight, are 11/2-point underdogs. The Bombers are 6-8 and the Lions are 7-7 and the last time the teams met the Bombers drilled the Lions 37-10.
Chowder Bowl
THE CFL is planning to hold a regular-season game in Moncton, N.B., next season with the Toronto Argonauts hosting another club, likely the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The game already has a nickname, dubbed the Chowder Bowl by Dan Barnes of the Edmonton Journal.
Foley all thumbs with tape
LIONS defensive end Ricky Foley likely doesn’t have a future as a trainer. The league leader in sacks with 11, broke his left thumb in a win last Friday over the Edmonton Eskimos. Foley blames the break on a poor tape job, handled by himself rather than the trainer.
"It was sprained before — and that’s why it broke, because of the way I had it taped," Foley told the Vancouver Sun. "I did it myself. When I jammed it, it had nowhere else to go but to break. I should have gone to Billy (trainer Bill Reichelt) to get it done. But I get sick of going to him every damn day. I guess it was a costly decision… I don’t consider it a big deal," he says. "You go one play, you smash it, it stings, you shake it in the huddle to get the pain out. Then you line up and play again."
McKinlay a hoser
THE Bombers will dress receiver Dante Luciani and he’ll take the roster spot of injured punter Mike Renaud. In another change, former U of M standout defensive lineman Justin Shaw will take linebacker Neil McKinlay’s spot on the roster.
McKinlay is in Vancouver in the final go-through for a job as a firefighter.
"Good for him. This is something that can secure his family for the long term so I wasn’t going to deny him that opportunity," said Bombers coach Mike Kelly. "From what I understand there were over 350 applicants and he’s in the final 10… I’m not going to deny a man his long-term future. This is about a guy’s life. This is just football. This is about a guy taking care of his wife and two kids and for him to be in that situation, I wasn’t going to deny him that opportunity."
