OFFENCE

Saskatchewan Roughriders QB Darian Durant was a model of efficiency, throwing three TDs on just 13 completions for 232 yards. Durant also ran six times for 39 more yards. Honourable mention goes to Riders WR Chris Getzlaf, who made just two catches, but both for touchdowns.

DEFENCE

Riders linebacker Jerrell Freeman had a monster game, registering seven tackles, an interception and a sack and also snuffing any designs Winnipeg had on another fourth-quarter comeback when he forced Bombers QB Buck Pierce to fumble on the Saskatchewan 19-yard line.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Saskatchewan placekicker Chris Milo was 2-for-2 on field goals and had a solid game punting, pinning the Bombers on the five-yard line on his first punt of the game in what proved to be a harbinger of things to come.

CRITICAL NUMBERS:

16-178 The number of penalties taken by Winnipeg in the game and the yards they lost in what degenerated into an ugly slugfest as the Bombers lost their composure late in the fourth quarter.

2 Number of Bombers ejected from the game — SB Cory Watson and DB Brandon Stewart.

4 Number of points by which the Bombers lead both Hamilton and Montreal in the East Division heading into this week. The Ticats moved into a second place tie with Montreal on Monday with a 44-21 thrashing of the Alouettes.

2.5 Average yards per carry by Bombers running back Fred Reid against the Riders. Reid finished the game with just 35 yards on 14 carries.

FAN-O-METER:

The parking lot scene outside Mosaic Stadium prior to game-time was epic as fans of the Bombers and Riders engaged in loud, colourful and frequently vulgar banter with one another. The best sign was held by a Bombers fan who urged Riders supporters discouraged by their club’s woeful record this season to cheer up — “You still have your NHL team.”
