Hey there, time traveller!

IT looks like the ball is now on Jamie Boreham’s foot.

Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice told reporters after Tuesday’s workout that Boreham, the punter acquired from the Saskatchewan Roughriders two weeks ago to offer a challenge to Mike Renaud, has moved ahead of the incumbent on the depth chart.

“I’m going to give Jamie a lot of the reps and see how he is throughout the course of the week,” LaPolice said. “If he’s fine, then we’ll put him in a position to be on the roster this week.

“Mike’s had some struggles and he’s frustrated with his play. I understand he is, but I have to do what’s best for the team.”

If Boreham, an eight-year veteran who hasn’t seen any game action this season, does land on the 42-man roster for Saturday, expect him to take over the kickoff duties from kicker Justin Palardy, as well.

Renaud’s troubles have been well documented. His lack of consistency in areas like hang-time, direction and distance has hurt both his confidence and the team’s field position in games — the two reasons why the Bombers have finally decided to make the switch.

In last week’s 24-10 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos, Renaud hit a 22-yard punt out of bounds from deep in the Winnipeg end. The resulting 10-yard penalty for an illegal punt gave the Eskimos the ball on the Bombers’ 29-yard line; field position that eventually led to an Eskimos touchdown.

“We look at everything as we try to get better as a team,” LaPolice said. “This is an area that we’ll evaluate. There’s only one way to do that: give the other guy a chance.”

BACK TO EARTH: Remember the turnover dominance turned in by the Winnipeg defence earlier in the year? It’s still there, but it’s fading fast.

The Bombers still have the overall lead with 47 total turnovers but thanks to three picks over the weekend, Edmonton now leads the CFL with 21 interceptions (one ahead of Winnipeg).

The Blue and Gold are now second in the turnover ratio department, as well. Winnipeg’s plus-13 is one off Edmonton’s lead.

Another figure to chew on: 34, the total number of turnovers committed by the Bombers this season, ahead of only Saskatchewan (43) and Toronto (47).

ATTICS

Another sellout?

The Bombers (9-6) say there are less than 200 tickets left for Saturday’s pivotal game with the Montreal Alouettes (10-5). The good news: Winnipeg, 4-3 at home, has sold out five straight home games. The bad news: They’ve lost their last two at Canad Inns Stadium.

Weekly winners

Toronto Argonauts running back Cory Boyd (offence), Montreal Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox (defence), B.C. Lions kicker Paul McCallum (special teams) and Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish (top Canadian) were named the CFL players of the week Tuesday.
