ONE of the deepest positions for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2013 is at running back.

With their starting tailbacks from each of the last two seasons in camp — Chad Simpson from 2013 and Chris Garrett from 2012 — the Bombers are already spoiled for choice.

But making that decision even tougher is the presence of yet another talented tailback in Will Ford, who impressed in 2012 in his limited opportunities and continues to count head coach Tim Burke as a fan.

“He adds a different dimension — he adds the home run ability,” said Burke. “Chad and Chris are good inside running backs and powerful and all that. And Will is a guy who’s a space player — he’s really good at open field…

“So that might be part of the formula — maybe one of the power backs plays and the space player plays.”

Burke was asked how hard it would be to keep Ford off the Bombers roster. “It’s looking harder and harder, isn’t it as you watch him out there.” he said. “He’s doing a great job. And he’s a great guy, too.”

The Bombers added import linebacker Chad Faulcon (6-0, 190, Montclair State) Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Cranford, N.J., product was a two-year starter for the Red Hawks and named the New Jersey Athletic Conference and D3 Football.com East Regions’ defensive player of the year. He was also named a Division III third-team All-American. All those accolades earned him a tryout with the Atlanta Falcons, but he was released prior to their main training camp.

He’ll battle for work at the weak side linebacker position. Burke said Faulcon is exceptionally quick and has the skills to play the hybrid linebacker-defensive back position that is weak-side linebacker in the Bombers scheme.

Garrett was back in action Wednesday morning after missing the afternoon session on Tuesday, but SB Rory Kohlert pulled up lame with a bad hamstring that will sideline him for a couple of weeks.

The Bombers have two practices today at Investors Group Field — 8 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. to 5:50 p.m.
