Blue have no clue who will start — or backup — at QB in Regina

ONE quarterback exited the game with his throwing hand wrapped in ice and will miss the first day of practice this week. Another is visiting the doctor today and the new face was to arrive in Winnipeg Tuesday night.

In other words: same old, same old as it relates to the Bomber starting quarterback saga and who might start Sunday in Regina against the Roughriders.

“We don’t know,” said head coach Tim Burke. “We’ll just see whose healthy and who’s not.”

If both Max Hall and Buck Pierce are out — Burke was confident Hall could at least dress as the third-stringer, depending how well he grips the ball — Justin Goltz would make his third start of the season. Newcomer Jason Boltus could also be activated immediately, depending on the status of Hall and Pierce.

Burke said Hall’s hand is still swollen, but not broken. Asked what Pierce’s injury was, he said:

“I’d rather not say what his injury is because if he does play I don’t want the other team to know what it is.”

KICKER CAROUSEL: The Bombers’ release of Justin Palardy wasn’t shocking given the arrival of veteran Sandro DeAngelis and the criticisms about Palardy’s kickoff distance and his field-goal range. That said, he did hit a solid 114 of 139 field goals (82 per cent) since arriving here midway through 2011.

Even though he has bounced around the league, the Bombers are intrigued by non-import Brody McKnight because he could possibly handle all the kicking chores.
