‘Cerebral’ Miles likely to get chance

AFTER working diligently on the practice roster all season, Wallace Miles could finally get his chance to get in some game action.

With veteran slotback Terrence Edwards likely out with a neck injury for Saturday’s game (just a strain, Burke said), and former NFLer Mike Sims-Walker not yet familiar enough with that spot’s playbook to take it over, Miles would be the choice, head coach Tim Burke said.

“He’s a really good route-runner,” Burke said. “Smart. Knows how to work moves to get open. He’s kind of a cerebral player, and he’s got good quickness, so we’re hoping if he plays he can beat man coverage.”

Elsewhere on the injury front, defensive back Demond Washington will definitely not play against the Stampeders, though Johnny Sears Jr. could come off of the nine-game injured to take that spot. Some of that will depend on where the Bombers sit in the salary cap, Burke said.

Defender Jovon Johnson should be ready to go, though he stayed out of practice on Wednesday a little banged-up.

The Bombers released young kicker Brody McKnight on Wednesday, though earlier in the season they had said they’d take a long-term approach to developing the kid with the booming leg. The decision, Burke said, was mostly about making room on the practice roster.

“We’re happy with where we’re at in the kicking game, and it didn’t feel like he could help us right now,” Burke said. “There’s a good chance we could bring him back.”
