THE Winnipeg Blue Bombers have piled up the money high for Henry Burris.

And now they wait.

The Bombers tendered a multi-year offer to Burris Thursday shortly after the veteran QB was released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and are clearly the leading suitor for Burris’s services for the upcoming CFL season.

However, Burris’s agent, Chris Gittings, has made clear he will be aggressively marketing Burris to teams throughout the CFL prior to Burris signing any deal. Montreal, Ottawa and Edmonton have all been cited this week as potential alternate destinations for Burris, although none of them offers him the clear-cut path to the starter’s gig that the Bombers do.

Meanwhile, new Bomber Korey Banks wasted little time in making his pitch to Burris, using his Twitter account (@24Banks) to negotiate on his new club’s behalf:

‘@HenryBurris lets make it happen HANK’

Later, on a media conference call, Banks was asked to comment on the possibility of the future hall-of-fame QB joining him in Winnipeg.

“Henry Burris… I don’t want to be a fortune teller, but I’m pretty sure he’ll end up in Winnipeg,” said Banks. “When he does, don’t be surprised.”

Bomber GM Kyle Walters would not comment on negotiations with Burris or on those with Zach Collaros, who signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday.

When asked about Burris:

“We’re not going to talk about our free agents or pending free agents. We’ve got a lot of stuff on the go. I’m not going to get into the details of it.”

And Collaros:

“It is what it is. Once all this settles down I’ll prepare to make a comment. Believe me, every day we are working on making this team better.”

BLUE NOTES: The Bombers cut adrift five players on Friday: quarterback Jason Boltus, defensive back Bo Smith, linebacker Daniel Sheffield, running back Mario Fannin — all imports — and Canadian defensive end Mathieu Boulay.
