JULIAN FEOLI-GUDINO has been on quite a wild ride for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers the past two weeks. And it’s about to get wilder still.

A week after Feoli-Gudino recorded both his first career catch and first career TD catch in the CFL, the Costa Rican-born non-import is scheduled to get his first CFL start this week in place of injured slotback Cory Watson.

All of which is quite a meteoric rise for a guy who spent the last couple of seasons in Toronto languishing as a special teams specialist before he was released by the Argos over the winter and snapped up as a free agent signing by the Blue.

“I knew I was going to get a chance to play on offence, but it’s happening maybe a little earlier than I thought,” Feoli-Gudino said Tuesday after practice at Investors Group Field. “I’m getting the opportunity and I’m going to make the most of it.”

Has he ever — Feoli-Gudino had four catches for 36 yards and a TD last week in his Bombers debut against the Argos in a game Winnipeg won 45-21.

“It was pretty exciting — against my old teammates and in an opening game and on a beautiful night like that,” he said.

Feoli-Gudino admitted he kept the ball from the TD catch and took it home, but he seemed a bit sheepish about it.

“As a receiver, you expect to catch the ball,” he said. “So I won’t make a big deal out of it. But yeah, it’s fun to score — especially against Toronto in the first touchdown of my career.”

The Bombers have two gaping holes in the middle of their defensive line with just two days to go until the club hosts the Ottawa Redblacks.

Bombers defensive tackle Zach Anderson was a spectator at practice for the third day in a row Tuesday morning at Investors Group Field and fellow tackle Bryant Turner was also once again absent, as he has been all week. Turner was excused from practice this week to attend the birth of his daughter and head coach Mike O’Shea revealed Tuesday afternoon there is some uncertainty if Turner will be back in time for Thursday’s game.

“We’re still not sure,” said O’Shea. “But we’ll know shortly.”

Making matters worse, O’Shea said he is also uncertain if Anderson, who has an injured heel, will be healthy enough to play against the Redblacks. “He’s a little bit banged up still,” said O’Shea. “But Zach intends to play.”

Tuesday’s session at IGF was the last full practice the Bombers will hold in advance of their game against Ottawa, who had the bye on opening week.
