VANCOUVER — B.C. Lions QB Kevin Glenn says he’s impressed by what he’s seen of the 2014 Winnipeg Blue Bombers so far this season.

Glenn says a lot of what he’s seen in the Bombers — who face the Lions here at BC Place Friday night — seems to reflect the personality of their head coach, Mike O’Shea.

“I played against Mike O’Shea — I played against him when he was a coach (and) when he was a player,” said Glenn.

“It trickles down. The guys underneath him take on his persona too. And you can tell… Their defence has kind of taken on that persona of how O’Shea played back when he played…You can see all the similarities. And I think that’s one reason Winnipeg has gotten off to the start they got off to.”

FOOT OF EXPERIENCE

THE Lions will have 44-year-old place kicker Paul McCallum also handling the punting and kickoff duties tonight.

Ricky Schmitt, who normally handles the latter two duties, hurt his shoulder earlier this week in a scooter accident, of all things.

Lions head coach Mike Benevides joked that he had no problem with expanding McCallum’s duties tonight given that he’s been in the CFL “since 1962.”

Meanwhile, the Bombers will also again have their regular placekicker, Lirim Hajrullahu, handling all the kicking duties tonight because of an injury to punter Mike Renaud, which occurred during the warmup prior to last week’s game against Edmonton.

MEDIA SHUT OUT

The Lions made part of their walk-through yesterday morning off limits to the media.

While an increasing number of CFL teams this season have made some practices off limits to the media, it’s almost unheard of to make the walk-through — which is usually a very light and informal practice the day before the game — inaccessible.

While the Bombers closely regulate when the media can record video of practices or take still photographs, they have yet to make any practices entirely off-limits.

THE Bombers will once again be without Winnipeg native Donovan Alexander when they play the B.C. Lions here at BC Place Friday night.

The Bombers defensive back has been dogged by injuries since training camp and hurt himself once again this week during practice.

O’Shea said here Thursday that Alexander’s new injury is different than the old one. While Alexander was on this week’s 46-man roster, O’Shea said yesterday he did not make the trip to B.C..

Coming on to the Bombers roster this week is returner Aaron Woods, defensive lineman Kashawn Fraser, newly acquired linebacker Kyle Jones and safety Maurice Leggett.
