And while teeing it up as part of that star-studded quartet is the longest of long shots, Hadwin will be rubbing shoulders with the PGA’s elite this coming week at the RBC Canadian Open at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver.

The 23-year-old Abbotsford, B.C. product has an exemption from Golf Canada and will be participating in his third PGA event, following this year’s U.S. Open and last year’s Canadian Open.

And so while he put Pine Ridge Golf Club in his rear-view mirror Sunday afternoon without the Players Cup winner’s cheque, Hadwin did exit with a final round 64 that was the lowest of all competitors this week and a solid minus-9 overall score that left him in seventh place.

“I’ve got something to take away from the tournament,” said Hadwin. “I got some kinks to work out. I don’t know if you saw me hitting driver at all today, but I was hitting punch drivers all day. If I took a full swing I didn’t know where it was going. But that’s what you kind of need to do at this level: if you’re not feeling comfortable with something you need to find a way to figure it out and I did.”

Hadwin will be joined at the RBC Canadian Open by the top five money leaders on the Canadian Tour’s Order of Merit after the conclusion of the Players Cup. They are Jose de Jesus Rodriguez of Mexico, Hugo Leon and Benjamin Alvarado of Chile and two other Canadians, Roger Sloan and Dustin Risdon.

And as for playing near home and all the pressures that accompany a week with the PGA elite… bring it all on said Hadwin with a huge grin.

“It depends on how you treat them, I guess, and whether or not you make them distractions,” he said. “I got to experience the U.S. Open a few weeks ago and that was a lot of fun and full of distractions as well.

“It’s just a lot of fun. It’s cool to be a part of that distraction sometimes. We don’t have that out here. We don’t have a lineup of people that want your autograph as you head to the clubhouse.

“It’s kinda cool to have to go 15 minutes earlier to have to do that, to make sure you’re a part of all that and to soak it all in. And after the U.S. Open it was back to Canadian Tour life.

“I’m looking forward to it.”
