OTTAWA — Ray Emery is back in Ottawa and appears to be up to his old tricks.

The former Senators goaltender was allegedly involved in yet another traffic violation Sunday night while driving his Hummer on a highway just south of the city.

Ontario Provincial Police pulled over a vehicle around 10:30 p.m. when an officer spotted it going well in excess of the speed limit. The Hummer was impounded in Kemptville, a community 30 minutes south of Ottawa, and Emery’s licence was suspended for one week.

He was charged under the stunt-driving provisions of the Highway Traffic Act. Under Ontario law, police have the authority to seize a vehicle going faster than 50 km/h above the speed limit. However, they would not confirm how fast the vehicle was going.

“That’s not fair to Mr. Emery or my investigators because it could potentially go to trial and it’s under impending investigation. It was the result of routine traffic enforcement on the 416,” said Insp. Paul Bedard, detachment commander for the Grenville County OPP.

The incident is the latest in a series of vehicle offences for Emery and his Hummer.

In May 2007, he was charged in an accident on the highway that runs through Ottawa while trying to catch a team charter to New Jersey during the Senators’ post-season run.

Only months later, he was involved in an alleged road-rage incident with a 65-year-old Ottawa resident. Then in February 2008, Ottawa police stopped Emery after he allegedly cut off a police car.

The netminder returned to Ottawa after enjoying a strong season playing in Russia for Atlant Mytischi of the Kontinental Hockey League. His team was eliminated from league playoffs earlier this month.

His play and mostly positive behaviour this season had some NHL teams reportedly considering Emery’s services for next year.
