The 36-year-old centre had 15 goals and 32 points in 76 games in 2024-25.

Backlund has played his entire 1,066-game NHL career in Calgary and is the longest tenured active skater on the Flames. The six-foot, 206-pound Swede was named the franchise’s 21st captain in September 2023.

He was a first-round pick (24th overall) by the Flames in the 2007 NHL draft.

Backlund has 215 goals and 348 assists across his 17-year career.
