CALGARY – Jake Neighbours scored twice for the St. Louis Blues in a 4-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
Robert Thomas had a goal and an assist and Pius Suter also scored for the Blues (1-1-0), who went with Joel Hofer over Jordan Binnington in net after the latter allowed five goals on 21 shots in their season-opener. Hofer made 27 saves in the win.
Neighbours produced the game-winner at 11:07 of the third period when he tipped in a Colton Parayko slapshot.

Matt Coronato scored twice for Calgary (1-2-0) whose streak of three straight wins in home-openers came to an end. Flames goalie Dustin Wolf stopped 24 of 28 shots in his third start in four nights.
Suter tipped a fluttering Tyler Tucker shot past Wolf at 13:33 of the third to give the Blues a two-goal lead.
Calgary carried a 1-0 lead and 9-4 margin in shots into the second period. Flames forward Ryan Lomberg and Blues defenceman Tyler Tucker fought at the 3:24 mark.
Neighbours drew St. Louis even at 12:41 of the second when he beat Mackenzie Weegar’s stick to put a backhand through Wolf’s pads.
Blues centre Thomas took two steps out from the goal-line to whip the puck far top corner for a power-play goal and a 2-1 lead at 14:25.
Coronato scored his second of the game 32 seconds later when he beat Hofer’s glove with a wrist shot.
Coronato collected his first of the season on a power play at 14:49 of the opening period. Joel Farabee feinted a shot and dished the puck low to Coronato, whose sharp-angled shot deflected off Tucker and into the net.
Takeaways
Blues: After almost 153 minutes without a goal, including their final pre-season game, Neighbours ended the Blues’ drought at 12:41 of the second period.
Flames: The Flames were minus left-winger Jonathan Huberdeau (undisclosed) a third straight game because of a pre-season injury, and Calgary’s power play has gone 2-for-14 to start the season without his playmaking skills.
