OSTRAVA – Tyler McGregor scored twice, including the winning goal, and Canada defeated China 4-2 on Thursday at the International Para Hockey Cup.
McGregor’s third and fourth goals of the tournament helped Canada improve to seven points (two regulation wins and an overtime loss) at the tournament.
Auren Halbert had a goal and an assist, and Rob Armstrong also scored for Canada, while Dominic Cozzolino added two assists.
Jean-François Huneault made 12 saves for Canada and chipped in with an assist.
Yutao Cui and Dian Peng Qiu scored for China, which has six points (two regulation wins and a regulation loss). Yanzhao Ji made nine stops.
Canada next faces Italy on Friday.
“I thought today we underperformed a little bit,” said assistant coach Steve Arsenault. “That being said, we bounced back, battled — and good teams find a way to win, and that’s what we did.
“At the end of the day, we still have to be better. When I look at the progress from day one to now, we’re improving, but there are some things we need to clean up heading into the final weekend.”
