MONCTON – Carlos Handel had a goal and assist, Owen Bresson stopped 37 shots, and the visiting Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Moncton Wildcats 5-2 in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action on Sunday.

Quinn Kennedy, Amelio Santini, Shawn Carrier and Liam Kilfoil (empty-netter) also scored for the Mooseheads (9-4-0-0), who trailed 2-0 after the first period, but led 4-2 heading into the third at the Avenir Centre.

Matthew Virgilio and Preston Lounsbury scored for the Wildcats (6-4-2-0), who outshot the visitors 39-31. Kuzma Voronin chipped in with two assists.

The Mooseheads went 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Wildcats were 0-for-5.

Wildcats netminder Rudy Guimond made 26 saves.

ISLANDERS 3 EAGLES 2 (SO)

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Matthew Butler scored the only goal of a three-round shootout to lift the Charlottetown Islanders to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Cape Breton Eagles.

CJ Watroba and Nathan Leek scored regulation time goals for the Islanders (10-2-1-2), who went 1-for-3 on the power play.

Jacob Hartlin and Romain Litalien scored for the Eagles (4-5-1-3), who forced overtime with a goal at 16:30 of the third period.

Both teams had 31 shots on goal. The Eagles were 0-for-2 on the power play.

TIGRES 4 SAGUENEENS 3 (SO)

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. — Alexis Bourque scored the only goal of a five-round shootout to lift the Victoriaville Tigres to a 4-3 win over the visiting Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

Olivier Laverdiere, Alexey Vlasov and Deryk Lemaire scored in regulation time for the Tigres (6-5-1-0), who outshot the visitors 27-26.

Emile Ricard, Emile Guite and Alexandre Desmarais scored for the Sagueneens (8-2-0-2), who led 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 heading into the third. Xavier Daigle chipped in with three assists.

The Tigres went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Sagueneens were 1-for-2.
