AT THE UNITED CENTER
Big picture
Two games, nothing close to a complete outing yet for the reborn Jets. You could call the trend positive that there was a great start and a sturdy finish, but Winnipeg has not come close to 60 minutes.
Little picture
Jim Slater’s two goals in the first period’s first eight minutes were a dream start for any visiting team in Chicago, but were nullified before the first period was over. The Blackhawks then kept right on with the momentum and had their own two-goal lead before seven minutes had gone by in the second period. From there, Winnipeg just didn’t have the firepower to catch up, though goalie Ondrej Pavelec gave them a chance in the third period.

Game-breaker
Marian Hossa’s goal at 33 seconds of the second period helped the Hawks continue the momentum they established late in the first period and the home team never gave up the lead after that.
Free Press ★★★
★ Patrick Kane. Playing centre seems to agree with him.
★★ Jim Slater. Two goals; big energy from the fourth line.
★★★ Marian Hossa. Capable of big plays and makes them.
