About the Jets
Breaking a five-game winless skid, the Jets won Monday at home against Tampa Bay to move to 6-9-3… The team has played six home games and a league-high 12 road games… Monday’s six for six on the penalty kill was the second straight game Winnipeg had not allowed a power-play goal. It’s the second time that’s happened this season… The Jets, heading into Wednesday’s play, were still the NHL team most shortthanded this season, 87 times… D Dustin Byfuglien’s strong game Monday was his first plus outing in six games…Tonight’s game is the first of six meetings this season with the Caps. The next comes next Wednesday in Washington.
About the Capitals
Hot out of the gate, the Caps are just 1-3-1 in their last five, including Tuesday’s last-minute 3-1 loss in Nashville… Washington is still tied for the Southeast Division lead with 21 points, with Florida. That’s six more than Winnipeg… Capitals’ power play is running at 20 per cent and in the top eight for the season… One reason for the team’s good start (10-5-1) is that it is 7-2-0 this season when its opponent scores first… C Nicklas Backstrom is the team leader in points, with 20 through 16 games… Coach Bruce Boudreau goes for his 200th NHL win tonight.
