LITTLE Donavan Collier woke up Saturday morning with a beef and got a Bauer for his trouble.
The eight-year-old son of Winnipeg Goldeyes GM Andrew Collier showed up at the MTS Centre with a Boo Bryzgalov sign aimed at Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov.
“I made the sign because he said we have no parks and we have terrible winters,” Collier said. “I think it was very nice of him to give me his stick.”
Bryzgalov spied the sign and on his way off the ice following the Flyers warmup he stopped to hand the youngster his goal stick.
Bryzgalov took a run at Winnipeg last winter when he was with the Phoenix Coyotes, saying, “No park, no entertaining for the families, for the kids. It’s going to be tough life for your family.”
The Coyotes were rumoured to be moving to Winnipeg and the Russian goalie wasn’t in favour of the transfer.
Friday, upon his arrival in Winnipeg, Bryzgalov offered an apology.
“Let’s make this straight, once and for all,” he said. “We (were) losing, I was disappointed, first of all. Second of all, I don’t want to move anywhere. I’m pretty sure good people, beautiful people live in Winnipeg. I’m pretty sure there’s passionate fans. I didn’t mean it. I don’t want to offend anybody. I sincerely apologize if I offended anybody, any fans in Canada or Winnipeg.”
