About the Jets
The Jets start a three-game road trip this week riding a three-game winning streak, the franchise’s first since last season’s first half… It won’t be easy. All three opponents on this trip were winners Monday — Washington, tonight’s test, snapped a four-game skid by beating Phoenix; Carolina, Friday’s opponent, beat Philly; and Boston, Saturday’s destination, defeated Montreal for their ninth straight win… Progress last week at home for D Dustin Byfuglien, who had five points in three games and was not a minus in any game, plus-1 for the week… G Ondrej Pavelec (7-7-3) has started 12 in a row but that streak is likely to end this week as the Jets play three times in four days. G Chris Mason is ready after missing time with a groin injury several weeks ago… The Jets continue to lead the NHL in being shorthanded, now at 100 times. Dallas (99) and Philly (98) are hot on their trail to the sin bin.

About the Capitals
Ended a miserable run of four straight losses with a Monday home win over Phoenix. Among those losses was a 4-1 defeat at Winnipeg last Thursday… LW Alex Ovechkin had an assist Monday, snapping his own four-game pointless drought… Caps coach Bruce Boudreau scored his 200th NHL win on Monday. He’s the 66th NHL head coach to reach that mark. Boudreau did it in 341 games since taking over in 2007…He is the second coach to score 200 wins since the 2004-05 lockout season. Former Moose boss Randy Carlyle is the other… Washington had a power-play goal Monday, snapping a five-game stretch without one…LW Alexander Semin was a healthy scratch Monday, a coach’s decision prompted by too many penalties and too few scoring contributions. Semin has four goals and nine points this season and is minus-3, at $6.7 million per season. There is trade gossip, but it’s a hefty contract.
