Jets 3 / Hurricanes 1
Big picture
Remember how you felt about the Jets’ record on Oct. 8? Twenty-two games into the season, the Jets have reached their starting point. Friday’s win in Raleigh lifted the team back to the .500 mark at 9-9-4. Given that the deficit in that department was three and even four games through the first quarter, this qualifies as progress.
Little picture
Two early penalty kills and then goals by Evander Kane and Andrew Ladd put the Jets in a good spot through two periods, and they did enough in the third in front of goalie Chris Mason to earn the victory. The Jets are 4-0-1 in their last five games.
Game Breaker
Jets coach Claude Noel is always commenting on responses, good and bad. The Jets had a great one for Jiri Tlusty’s goal that made the game 1-1 early in the second. Sixty-eight seconds later, Ladd outfought two opponents in the Carolina crease to get to the puck for the game-winner.
